| Arkansas Fastpitch, 2/25/01, Terry Whitworth -
Welcome Arkansas FastPitch fans and players. I will be the editor for Arkansas Fastpitch Central. I am looking forward to hearing from all Players and Coaches as well as Parents that pertains to the Sport of FastPitch for our Youth. I will be traveling to several different parks throughout the coming season and looking forward to seeing some good games. I will also be reporting on High School games as well. High School Coaches, send me your input and I will post as soon as I can. I am in need of web site address for Teams and High School Teams. Burns Park at NLR - Tournament Info for 2001
I have been in contact with Rob Wade with the North Little Rock Girls Softball Association and he has given me some Tournament info for you Fast Pitch Teams looking for some action. There are 3 fastpitch tournaments at Burns Park in the comming season. May 11-13 Star Tournament (fast Pitch) All ages, all divisions. June 8-10 Burns Park Classic "C", (Fast Pitch) All ages, "C" Division only. Sept 14-16 Fall Finale (Fast Pitch) All ages, All Divisions. All tournament winners receive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team and individual trophies. Team trophies start at 5ft and go down. I look forward to seeing Teams in action on these weekends.
Hello Fast Pitch Fans,
I hope all your Ball Parks made it through the ice storm we went through last month. As I get up and about in the mornings now I see a little bit less frost on the old truck. Could this be the indication that teams will be able to get out and really start to take some infield? I have had coaches contacting me with news that they been finding safe havens for their catchers and pitchers to practice indoors. If you're like me the only practice I have been able to have with my daughter is out in the yard and by the time we are finished we look like we have plowed up a new garden with our shoes. The wife starts at that point fussing about what we might track in the house.
From the Diamond
Season is getting closer and things are about to start taking shape on the old diamond. I have been in contact with a few coaches, and from the conversations that have approached me, I am learning some disturbing news. At first I welcomed the A division of play that is supposed to becoming to the Natural State through the ASA program, but now I am wondering whether this is a good statement. I myself welcome the chance to play at the upper division and would hope all the Teams out there that can play at this level would welcome it too. I do wonder though, who will play at the A level when it comes to State Play-Off time. Surely we will not end up with just one or two teams in the A division in each age group. This could bring on a matter that has yet to be done to the best of my knowledge, and that would be to hold a sanctioning tournament for the Districts through out the Natural State. I am not for sure how all the other coaches out there feel about this. If you have time please email me with your view po
2 Should a team be able to declare A level. 3 Is the district tournament a true way of sending the top seads to a certain level of play. 4 Should all Districts follow the same guide lines on their top seads.
I can only say this about the matter it can only be settled From the Diamond.
Enough about me here is the news that been burning at ever coaches stomach since Fast Pitch got off the ground in the Natural State. Yes the ASA has approved the state for A Division play. I say welcome to the state. The following dates, places, and division information was furnished to me by a District commissioner. Here it is à
10U A&B Bentonville July6-8
10U C Bentonville July13-15
12U A&B Bentonville July6-8
12U C Bentonville July 13-15
14U A&B Harrison July 6-8
14U C Cabot July 13-15
16U A&B Russellville July 6-8
16U C Burns Park July 13-15
18U Russellville July 6-8
Now we can begin making those plans for where we will stay and how much we must pay down on the old bankcard to make it there. I hope this information will be beneficial
for all that plan to make the trip to a state tournament.
I have just received word about a magazine that is going to the press for publication that is about women's sports for the state of Arkansas. The editor for the magazine has been in contact with me and assures me that Fast Pitch is going to be a topic that they are going to cover very thoroughly. I cannot wait to get my hands on the first issue and see how they feel the Fast Pitch programs are progressing in the state. Look for the first issue to be out with in the coming months. |

Arkansas Fastpitch, 2/25/01, Terry Whitworth -
From the Diamond
I have been hearing a rumble coming from a small park out of the central part of the state.
The word is that the 12 under age division may have a new Top Gun on the Block. If you step
back and check the track record and years of experience of this team you may understand what
I am talking about. These young ladies are coming to the game with one thing on their mind. #1
In talking with the coach he has taken the time to hold these young Ladies down long enough to
send me the Player names for all to be on the look out for.("Amazing" Grace), ("Bruce" Brooke), ("Snake" Emily) ("KJ"Kayla) and ("Stretchdog" Lauren),(Cassie "Jellybean"),(Loren "LOLLY"),(Rachel "Lil Bit"),(Rachel Mills "Ray-Ray"),(Kristn "Slider"),(Cheryl "Speedy")
So if you are down in the Benton area happen upon Tyndal Park and you are playing in the 12 and Under division and matched up with Balloonatics "ATTACK" you may need to check your line up, for what may be up From The Diamond.
Beebe Blast
The Blast 12 & Under team is returning for it's third year of competition. Last year this team finished seventh in the nation in the final USSSA Fastpitch Class "B" Rankings. The team won the Arkansas USSSA Class "C" State Tournament and finished third in the Arkansas USSSA Class "B" State Tournament. 2000 spring season was capped off with an appearance in the SSA World Series in Pigeon Forge, TN. Based upon our competitiveness and team sportsmanship we have already received a birth in the 2001 SSA World Series. During the fall season, the young ladies took first place in the Cabot Fest Fastpitch Tournament.
The Blast 12 & Under team played together for the first time in the Fall
2000 Cabot League. This team is composed of a core group that has moved up from the ten and under age group. Upon that core group additional players
were added who showed the discipline required to play fastpitch softball on
a regional level. After a time of jelling, this team began to show real
promise towards the end of the fall season. We look forward to the upcoming 2001 spring season.
The 16U Magic, RuffNeks, and Screamers battled all year (2000). There will be some exciting games coming from their matches again this Year. |
