THE CURVE BALL
By: Bill Hudson
The curve is usually more effective at the younger levels of play rather than college or open levels. Since this is a vertical pitch, the location must be good. (Just inside or just outside). I much prefer the curve drop rather than the "flat" curve.
Grips
Try the grip you are using for your rise ball or one of the other grips described in the rise ball section.
Mechanics
· The wrist is in a cocked position as you get to the rear of the right leg with the palm up and side of the hand facing the plate.
· The hand cuts under the ball as the wrist snaps around the hip towards first base.
· The right toe is dragging to cause resistance and the hip comes forward more on this pitch.
· The right elbow leaves the side on the follow through.
